APEC makes filter replacement straightforward. Here's the full schedule for each stage, what sets to buy, and the annual cost breakdown.
| Stage 1: PP Sediment Filter | Every 6–12 months — replace sooner in high-sediment areas |
| Stage 2: GAC Carbon Filter | Every 12 months |
| Stage 3: Carbon Block Filter | Every 12 months |
| Stage 4: RO Membrane | Every 2–3 years — or when TDS output rises above 50 |
| Stage 5: Post-Carbon Filter | Every 12 months |
| Annual cost estimate | $60–$90 per year |
The ES-FILTER-SET-US-ESSENCE-CHROME is APEC's popular all-in-one replacement set that covers the annual pre-filter and carbon stage changes. The RO membrane (ROES-50 membrane) is ordered separately every 2–3 years. Buying sets is cheaper than ordering individual filters.
Use a TDS meter. ROES-50 output water should read 10–30 TDS from typical municipal water. When it starts creeping above 50, the membrane is losing effectiveness. APEC recommends replacing on a 2–3 year schedule as a baseline even if readings are still good.
Technically yes — the ROES-50 uses standard 10" × 2.5" filter housings compatible with many brands. However, using non-APEC filters may affect filtration performance and could void warranty coverage. APEC recommends their own replacement filters for certified performance.
